We’ve heard a lot about Apple’s upcoming “iWatch” this past week, with The Wall Street Journal and Reuters both chiming in with new claims about the device’s design and features. Tech review site PocketNow has now shared additional information about the smart watch, claiming that the device will come in two models – “Sports” and “Designer”.
A source familiar to the matter has just shared that Apple is already testing two iWatch models with very different designs. There is a “Sports” model, which apparently has a rectangular design and a rubber bracelet. This model was reportedly being tested recently by Kobe Bryant at the Apple campus, and what’s most interesting is that it apparently looks like any other watch on the market. The report also mentions that there is a “Designer” variant of the iWatch which has a circular design and a metallic construction that’s most probably stainless steel.
PocketNow‘s claim of the iWatch being tested by professional basketballer Kobe Bryant lines up with a report yesterday by 9to5Mac that Apple was recruiting several professional athletes to test the smart watch’s fitness capabilities. Last month, the site had also published photos of Bryant on Apple’s campus, where the LA Lakers shooting guard was reportedly meeting with design chief Jony Ive to discuss “upcoming products”.
According to PocketNow, both models of the iWatch will feature a water-resistant touch-screen, along with various sensors to track information ranging from blood pressure and heart rate to barometric pressure and blood oxygen level. WSJ had claimed in its report that the iWatch would feature “more than 10 different sensors”, some of which would track health and fitness statistics.
The iWatch will also feature “at least 8 GB of storage built-in”, notes the report, allowing it to serve as a replacement for the iPod during fitness training. The device is expected to be released in the second half of the year, with earlier reports hinting at an October launch.
