Two of Apple’s key iPhone manufacturers, Hon Hai Precision Co., Ltd. and Pegatron Corporation, are ramping up hiring in anticipation of strong demand for the upcoming ‘iPhone 6′, reports Reuters, citing Taiwanese news sources. Hon Hai Precision Industry will recruit over 100,000 people in mainland China to produce the newest iPhone from Apple Inc, Taiwan’s Economic Daily News said, in what the report called the firm’s largest single hiring spree in China. Fellow Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron Corp will expand its workforce in one mainland factory by 30 percent, also in response to expected high demand for the new iPhone, Economic Daily News said on Monday. Tech site Digitimes had claimed in a report late last month that Hon Hai, or more commonly known as Foxconn, would be taking on majority of orders for Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone, with Pegatron sharing 30% of the load. The Taiwanese news report quoted by Reuters today has corroborated this claim, but does not indicate whether the 70-30 split is for the 4.7-inch model only, as claimed by Digitimes earlier. Apple is rumored to be launching the iPhone 6 in two screen sizes, 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch, both of which are significantly larger than the 4-inch display on the current iPhone 5s. Both models are expected to arrive in the second half of the year, although earlier reports had indicated that the 4.7-inch variant would be arriving earlier in September due to production issues for the 5.5-inch model.
